India declared on Monday that the US and EU’s “targeting” of the country for purchasing Russian oil since the start of the war in Ukraine is “unjustified and unreasonable. In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Randhir Jaiswal stated, “India, like any major economy, will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security. Additionally, it said that Washington at the time had “actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets stability.
It drew attention to what it implied were unfair commercial practices between the US and the EU, specifically regarding Moscow. It is revealing that the very nations criticising India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia,” Jaiswal said. “In contrast to our situation, such trade is not even a necessary national requirement.
In addition to energy, commerce between Europe and Russia also involves fertilizers, mining goods, chemicals, iron and steel, machinery, and transportation equipment, the statement continued.
In terms of the United States, it still imports fertilizers, chemicals, palladium for its electric vehicle business, and uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry from Russia. In a previous statement, US President Donald Trump declared that he would “substantially” raise taxes on India.
