Months after testifying before Congress that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons, Tulsi Gabbard now claims that the nation might make them “within weeks”. The US Director of National Intelligence claimed that “dishonest media” had misrepresented her March statement, in which she claimed that Iran has a stockpile of materials but was not producing these weapons.
Trump’s statement that she was “wrong” and that information indicated Iran possessed a “tremendous amount of material” and could produce a nuclear bomb “within months” caused her to reconsider her beliefs. Iran has consistently maintained that it has no intention of developing a nuclear weapon and that its nuclear program is completely benign.
Trump announced on Thursday that he was giving Tehran a “maximum” of two weeks to negotiate with Washington about its nuclear programs. He promised to make a decision shortly on whether the US should support Israel’s attacks on Iran. Within Trump’s “America First” movement, there has been growing disagreement about whether the US should get involved in the war.
Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran, stated on Saturday morning that although his nation was “completely prepared for a negotiated solution” over its nuclear program, it “cannot go through negotiations with the US when our people are under bombardment.
