The Israeli military has announced that it has recovered the body of the last remaining hostage in Gaza, a development that could allow the next phase of US President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan to move forward.
The body was identified as that of Master Sergeant Ran Gvili, who had been missing since the ceasefire with Hamas came into effect in October. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the recovery as “an extraordinary achievement.”
Search operations began early Sunday in a cemetery near Gaza City after updated intelligence pointed to the location. According to the Israeli military, the site was within the Yellow Line,” an area that remains under Israeli control as part of the ceasefire agreement.
Hamas’s armed wing said it had shared full details of Gvili’s whereabouts with mediators, helping to facilitate the recovery. A Hamas spokesperson stated that the group had consistently provided relevant information, calling the development proof of its commitment to the ceasefire terms.
