Her Majesty The first conference of the Arabic Cultural Institute was held in Milan last August under the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and was inaugurated by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, chairperson of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation, and founder and chairperson of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council (Irthi).
The institute, housed at Milan’s Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, is the country’s first to celebrate Arab scientific and artistic accomplishments while promoting communication between Arab and Western civilisations. During her tour, Her Highness looked around the institute’s divisions and year-round offerings.
Additionally, Sheikha Jawaher attended a symposium called “Design as a Means of Communication” and watched a workshop for young Arab children in Milan. The institute’s continuous goal of improving young Arabs’ ability to communicate in Arabic in Italy is in line with this session.
The film “Khorfakkan,” which was based on His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi’s book Khorfakkan’s Resistance Against the Portuguese Invasion of September 1507, was shown during the conference.
Mario Gatti, the director of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan; media personality Mona El Shazly; Dr. Wael Farouq, the director of the Arabic Cultural Institute; Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, the CEO of SBA; and Italian academics, cultural officials, and university students were among those present.
