In honour of World Braille Day, the Kalimat Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Sharjah that gives vulnerable and visually impaired children access to reading materials, proudly planned an impactful and captivating program of activities to promote accessibility and inclusion for blind and VI children. The event was held in association with Racks Café at their Aljada location. This cooperation has launched a groundbreaking effort to make board games more accessible by introducing a line of games with tactile textures and braille lettering that will be offered at the Café permanently.
In keeping with accessibility, a specially designed braille menu has also been used during the workshop, letting kids choose their own meals and drinks while highlighting the value of self-reliance and self-assurance.
This program, which strives to bring together blind, visually impaired, and sighted children in a fantastic display of awareness and unity, exemplifies community and the foundation’s objective to encourage independence and lifelong learning, ensuring that no kid is left behind. Honoring the legacy of Louis Braille, whose groundbreaking tactile writing system has liberated millions worldwide, World Braille Day is observed on January 4 every year.
