Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, denounced a “serious accident” that occurred during the Thursday launch of a new warship as a “criminal act” that must not be allowed. According to official media, the 5,000-ton destroyer lost equilibrium when its bottom parts were smashed.
According to Kim, who witnessed the launch, the ship must be rebuilt before a crucial party gathering in June. He also wants individuals responsible for the ship’s design held accountable for the incident, which he claimed “severely damaged the dignity and pride of our nation in an instant.
According to state media accounts, the event did not result in any fatalities or injuries. On Thursday, Kim blamed the catastrophe on “absolute carelessness, irresponsibility, and unscientific empiricism” at a shipyard in the eastern port city of Chongjin.
Next month, a plenary conference will address the “irresponsible errors” of individuals implicated, he added. The totalitarian state has a terrible human rights record, but it’s unclear what penalty they may face.
According to activists, anyone can be imprisoned for nearly anything, including attempting to defect or viewing a South Korean DVD. Although it has occasionally done so in the past, North Korea rarely makes public announcements of local mishaps.
