Data released on Sunday showed that during the summer vacation, the Republic of Korea saw a 19.9% YoY increase in the number of international flight passengers, fully recovering to the pre-pandemic level.
Yonhap News Agency reported that in July and August, 15.69 million people used international flights at Korean airports, up nearly 20 percent from the same period last year. The Korea Airports Corp. and the Incheon International Airport Corp provided the data. The amount for this year was roughly 97% of the total recorded in 2019.
The highest number of travellers for a single country was 4.17 million, who used flights connecting Korea and Japan as their destination during the period under review.
The number represented a growth of 25% from the 2019 level and an increase of 18.5 percent year over year. In the summer, 2.79 million passengers took flights to and from China, representing a 58.9 percent year-over-year increase.
According to the data, demand for flights connecting Europe edged down 0.2 percent to 879,000, while the number of passengers travelling to and from America increased 16.3 percent to 1.23 million.
