Two Asian nationals and two others who are still at large were sentenced by the Dubai Criminal Court to one month in prison, followed by deportation. The other national was assaulted, his cell phone was taken, and an indecent video of him was taken. For these offences, the sentence was given.
The incident happened in May of the previous year in the Satwa area. An Asian man claimed that he had been inappropriately filmed, physically attacked, and had had his cell phone stolen.
He explained how he had contacted one of the defendants to ask for help paying back a debt he owed to a relative. But the accused had brought him to the Satwa region to get a certain amount of money. When the accused and a few accomplices reached the appointed spot, they attacked him with a wooden stick and their hands, displaying unexpected violence. In addition, one of the criminals took his mobile and made him take off his clothes before filming him doing it. He told the police that they then left the scene.
The defendants denied any involvement in the crime during questioning. They asserted that the victim had previously taken money from their car but declined to return it. The first and second defendants thus tried to resolve the issue with the victim. Three arguments ensued due to the victim’s refusal to return the money.
