The new batch of court documents that Congress and the US Department of Justice released after a fight for transparency on Capitol Hill has shaken up reputations on both sides of the Atlantic.
They include emails in which former Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland talks about “extraordinary girls” he met, as well as claims about Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ activities outside of marriage.
Peter Mandelson, who was a powerful figure in the Labour Party for decades and held high-level positions in the UK, including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry in 1998 and Secretary of State for Business and Innovation, is one of the most sensitive people for economic and policy watchers.
In 2004, when the UK was still a part of the European Union, he was also the European Commissioner for Trade in Brussels. It is still not apparent if the Epstein documents that were made public contain evidence that could lead to criminal charges against Mandelson or just a paper trail of bad decisions.
