On Friday, the US and Iran will negotiate about nuclear weapons in Oman. This comes after President Donald Trump gave Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei a direct warning. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, indicated that the meeting would begin in Muscat at 10:00 AM (06:00 GMT). Officials in the US also said that it will happen there.
The negotiations seemed to be in trouble because the two countries couldn’t agree on where and how they should take place. Trump has sent more US troops to the area and warned to use force if Iran doesn’t agree to a deal on its nuclear program and stop killing protestors. When NBC News asked him if Khamenei should be frightened, he said, “I would say he should be very worried.”
An Arab diplomat told CBS News, which is the BBC’s US partner, that the talks between Tehran and Washington were never officially called off, but they were in flux on Wednesday morning.
Three US sources also confirmed that an Axios report was correct. The report added that the talks were back on track in the afternoon after a number of Arab and Muslim leaders told the Trump administration not to follow through on its threats to leave.
