Jamil Siddique | Building Scalable Logistics Across Continents Through Leadership and Transformation

In the world of global logistics, scale is complex. Borders shift. Markets evolve. Technology accelerates. But at the center of sustainable growth remains one constant — leadership.

Over three decades, Jamil Siddique has built and transformed logistics businesses across the UK, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Mekong region, and the Middle East. From managing some of the earliest fully automated warehouses in the 1990s to leading multi-country clusters with thousands of employees, his career reflects disciplined expansion, operational excellence, and people-first leadership.

In this exclusive conversation, he reflects on the experiences that shaped him, the growth milestones that defined his journey, and the principles that continue to guide his leadership across regions.

The Foundation: From Operations to Global Leadership

We began by asking, “Can you share your early background and what shaped your career journey?”

“My early background started in 3PL logistics operations, working through a number of operational roles and progressing through the management ladder. I spent ten years in confectionery logistics in the UK, including managing one of the world’s first fully automated warehouses in the 1990s.”

Those formative years grounded him in operational discipline. But his journey did not remain linear.

He transitioned into sales development, then moved into change management across multiple logistics centers in the UK. In 2002, he relocated to South Korea to project manage a national distribution center for Carrefour with Exel Logistics.

Soon after, Indonesia became his first full P&L leadership role as General Manager, later Country Director, until DHL acquired Exel in 2006.

Each move expanded both geographical scope and leadership responsibility.

Scaling Across Asia

Continuing the conversation, we asked, “What major growth milestones stand out in your journey?”

“It was a great experience to see the other side of logistics and supply chain. Understanding production brings a different perspective to distribution.”

After Indonesia, he moved to Singapore with IDS Logistics, serving in customer development, special projects, and eventually as Country Head. There, he managed what was then the largest fully automated logistics center in Asia and established a healthcare distribution center compliant with GDPMDS standards.

He later joined HAVI Logistics, overseeing regional supply chain operations for McDonald’s across multi-temperature networks. During a year in Japan, he designed and specified a fully automated logistics center, further strengthening his expertise in high-efficiency distribution systems.

In 2014, he moved to ECCO in Thailand as Supply Chain Director. This shift to the manufacturing side broadened his understanding of production supply chains.

Building From Zero – Jamil Siddique

In 2016, he joined Kuehne & Nagel with a mandate to establish its contract logistics business from scratch.

“We started with zero. The first customer win was in healthcare retail. From there, we completed an acquisition of a local logistics company.”

By 2021, the operation had grown to 40,000 square meters of warehousing space, 300 full-time employees, and a 200-truck fleet.

Growth was not accidental. It was structured, relationship-driven, and built on disciplined execution.

He then moved to DB Schenker, leading the Mekong Cluster across Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The business encompassed over 20 logistics centers and 4,000 employees across sectors including hi-tech, FMCG, retail, industrial, and electronics.

In December 2023, he joined TALKE as Regional Director Middle East, later expanding responsibilities into Asia in early 2025. By October 2025, he also assumed the role of Acting Managing Director for Malaysia, accelerating growth within months.

His academic milestone came alongside his operational journey, completing an MBA in 2019.

Leadership Over Scale

Shifting to leadership philosophy, we asked, “How have you consistently grown teams and businesses?”

“I build people. Growth comes from solid, trusting relationships and good leadership.”

For him, leadership is not transactional. It is cultural. Teams grow when they feel empowered and aligned.

When asked about critical qualities for success in logistics, he emphasized three elements:

  • Authentic and clear leadership
  • Strong performance management through KPIs and metrics
  • A culture that values accountability

“Without people behind you, success is not possible.”

Sustainability and Technology

We then explored industry evolution. “How does your business contribute to the ecosystem in your region?”

“Sustainable logistics is key. We must incorporate sustainability into the culture of the team and continuously look for efficiencies.”

On technological change, his approach is pragmatic.

“Technology is key to successful growth. We must embrace technology that makes sense and is applicable to the needs of the business.”

For him, innovation is not about adopting trends. It is about implementing solutions that deliver measurable operational value.

Advice for Emerging Leaders

As the conversation concluded, we asked, “What guidance would you give someone entering this industry?”

“First understand the market. Then understand the customer. Know your own capabilities and gaps before establishing yourself.”

It is grounded advice.

In an industry defined by scale and speed, clarity of understanding often determines longevity.

Final Reflection

Jamil Siddique’s journey reflects more than geographic mobility. It reflects strategic mobility. From early automation in the UK to multi-country leadership in Asia and the Middle East, his career demonstrates that sustainable logistics growth is built on three pillars: operational expertise, technological pragmatism, and authentic leadership.

As global supply chains become more interconnected and sustainability becomes non-negotiable, leaders who combine transformation capability with people-centered management will define the next era of logistics. With decades of international experience and a proven ability to build and scale complex logistics operations, Jamil continues to engage with industry leaders and organizations exploring the next phase of supply chain transformation.
