IMI: Elevating Brands With Exceptional Exhibition Services

We recently had the privilege of interviewing Nikos Migdalis, Co-founder and CEO of International Media Ideas (IMI), an exhibition and events agency in Dubai. As a seasoned serial entrepreneur, Nikos is driving growth and success through his strategic vision, inspirational leadership, and operational expertise.

With a proven track record of identifying market opportunities, he crafts and executes plans that propel businesses forward. With IMI, Nikos offers top-notch event solutions, with a constant aim for success. In this insightful session, the CEO shares his career highlights, achievements of IMI, and his leadership style.

First steps

We started the interview by asking, “Can you tell us about your professional journey and what led you to your current role?”

Nikos Migdalis  shared, “I started my career back in Greece through internships and quite soon I jumped into entrepreneurship in the UAE back in 2007, following my studies in Greece & U.K. Everything was a mix of actions, ideas, and of being in the correct place at the correct time. Back in those years, Dubai was developing into an international business hub which was enhancing and leading the whole dynamic of the region.

I established IMI which gradually turned into a full-scale exhibition agency, offering turnkey solutions to both local and international companies that were and are participating in various trade fairs that are taking place in the country. Step by step the company grew and as of today, is a leading recognizable entity within its industry. I will always be grateful to the UAE which I call first home for opening its arms.”

Setting A Unique Approach

We were curious to learn more about the approaches adopted by Nikos to ensure his company has a unique position in the market. We asked, “What sets your business apart from competitors in the industry?”

Nikos Migdalis  shared, “I am not fond of talking about competition, but I strongly believe that in IMI we offer a Unique Value Proposition which makes our businesses and services unique to the customers and this is why we achieve high percentage retainers of projects. In terms of customer experience as well, we emphasize any unique approaches towards the client such as personalized support and exceptional responsiveness which stands out.  

In addition, the quality and innovation that we try to implement in the projects that we offer play a significant role as well. Our brand story and values also include a special commitment to sustainability and community involvement.

Triumphs Of IMI

Eager to learn more about the triumphs at Nikos Migdalis’s business, we asked, “What has been your business’s biggest achievement to date?”

The biggest achievement so far I believe is our distinctive company culture that resonates with our customers. Good players win the games but a good team can win the championship, and I am proud of my team.” He said.

Leading By Doing

Regarding the leadership approach followed by Nikos, we asked, “How would you describe your leadership style?”

Nikos Migdalis  responded, “I would describe it as a ‘Leadership by Example’ which is a powerful approach to guiding and influencing others. It always involves demonstrating the values, behaviors, and work ethics you expect from your Team. Consistency, integrity, accountability, and respect for others, along with mentoring are aspects that a leader shall demonstrate towards the greater success of all.”

Empowering Employees

We further asked, “What strategies do you use to motivate and develop talent in your organization?”

Motivating and developing talent is crucial for any company’s success. Having a clear vision and goals along with recognition and rewards are part of that. Furthermore, offering professional development along with career growth opportunities enhances that. Lastly,

an inclusive culture with diverse teams and parallel good team building is always leading to multiple positive effects.” Nikos added.

Embracing Digital Transformation

To stay competitive in the dynamic business landscape, businesses need to keep pace with technological advancements. We asked, “What role do you see artificial intelligence or technology playing in this industry?”

Nikos Migdalis  shared, “Undoubtedly, we live in the AI era with its impact on our daily lives has never been more significant than today. It is transforming the way we interact with technology and the world around us. Integration of AI into trade fairs enhances efficiency, personalization, and the whole attendee experience and will move the industry into more dynamic and data-driven events.  

It is something already happening and it will accelerate very shortly, and undoubtedly, we are experiencing a very interesting era.”

Envisioning The Future

To get a glimpse of Nikos Migdalis’ perspective on the growth of his industry in the upcoming years, we asked, “How do you envision the future of your industry?”

Nikos Migdalis  replied, “The future of trade fairs is most likely to be shaped by several emerging trends and technological  advancements such as sustainability, personalization and AI, enhanced engagement technologies along with data-driven insights.”

Adaptability Amidst Challenges

Adversities are an inevitable part of every business. To learn how Nikos overcame similar phases, we asked, “What have been some of the most significant hurdles you’ve encountered in your business, and how did you address them?”

Nikos shared, “There have always been several hurdles and challenges so I wouldn’t like to identify one or two specifically only. Each of these challenges though requires careful planning and adaptability to ensure a successful trade fair experience. Every day is a new adventure as I keep saying to my team.”

A Customer-Centric Approach

We asked, “What is an excellent piece of business advice you have ever received?”

Nikos Migdalis  shared, “I have received a lot but I would say – Focus on the customer value, not just a business transaction.”

Striking A Balance

To stay ahead, businesses need to constantly invest in fresh ideas, ensuring their existing operations remain efficient. So, we asked, “How do you balance investing in up-to-date ideas with ensuring ongoing operations remain successful?”

Balancing investment in new ideas with maintaining successful ongoing operations is a critical challenge for any company. Strategic alignment, resource allocation along with regular review and adjustments are some ways to achieve that. We live in a fast-moving train and any action shall be done with prior detailed market research and a great plan while at the same time, too much analysis leads to paralysis.” Nikos concluded.
