After a tumultuous start in Kolkata, football sensation Lionel Messi concluded his three-day vacation in India in polluted Delhi. Thousands of supporters flocked to a stadium in Delhi on Monday to catch a glimpse of the Argentina and Inter Miami forward.
The audience cheered Messi’s name as he walked onto the field with Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul, kicked balls into the stands, passed with a group of kids, and signed autographs.
According to local media, fog caused his aircraft from Mumbai to be delayed, necessitating a reduction in his itinerary. Because they were unable to see him in person, irate supporters vandalized a stadium in Kolkata on Saturday. Since arriving in the early hours of Saturday, Messi has had a busy itinerary in India, attending several promotional events in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
He virtually unveiled a 70-foot (21-meter) statue of himself that had been put together over the course of 27 days by a 45-person crew in the eastern city before travelling to Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata later that day. However, the tour got off to a terrible start as irate spectators tore up seats and hurled objects at the stadium’s field.
