On Monday, the Pentagon announced that it is investigating “serious allegations of misconduct” against Senator Mark Kelly, a Democrat from the United States. Six Democratic senators, including Kelly, a retired US Navy captain, created a video urging military personnel to defy illegal orders.
The announcement, which was made in a post on the Department of War X account, implied that the action was taken in reaction to Kelly’s remarks but did not specify the accusations against Kelly: “All servicemembers are reminded that they have a legal obligation under the UCMJ to obey lawful orders and that orders are presumed to be lawful.”
Kelly claimed that the Pentagon’s Monday social media statement was how he found out about the probe. Kelly replied on X, “It won’t work if this is intended to scare me and other members of Congress from carrying out our duties and holding this administration responsible. Last week, US President Donald Trump accused Kelly and other Democratic legislators of “seditious behavior, punishable by death” on social media, in addition to the Pentagon.
