Authorities in Mumbai issued a two-day red alert for the city and its outskirts on Monday due to extremely heavy rainfall and significant waterlogging.
According to the announcement made by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, tomorrow will see the closure of all schools and colleges. For the third day in a row, Monday saw heavy rain, which resulted in flooding, heavy traffic, and delays in bus and train service in several locations.
In just nine hours on Monday, several parts of Mumbai experienced more than 100 mm of rain, with the eastern suburbs’ Vikhroli receiving the most, at 135 mm. Rainfall totaled 124 mm in Chembur, 123.9 mm in Santacruz, and 123.5 mm in Juhu.
Orange warning has been issued for a number of districts, including Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.
Mumbai experienced 177 millimeters of rain in just six to eight hours on Monday, according to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also cautioned residents to exercise caution as additional storms and high seas are predicted.
