In January, on the eve of Trump’s return to the White House, Khan wrote an essay warning of western “reactionary populists” posing a “century-defining challenge” to progressives. During his first time in office, Khan became caught in a verbal battle after speaking out against the United States’ visa restriction on citizens from certain Muslim nations.
Trump then criticized Khan, the first Muslim mayor of a Western metropolis when elected in 2016, of doing a “very bad job on terrorism,” labeling him a “stone cold loser” and very dumb.”
