RIYADH: NEOM has signed a joint venture agreement with Samsung C&T Corp. to accelerate the development and deployment of construction automation technology in Saudi Arabia.
This strategic relationship will result in an initial expenditure of around SR1.3 billion ($350 million) in construction robotics. The partnership comes just one week after NEOM struck a separate agreement with GMT Robotics to accelerate the delivery of its ambitious projects.
According to the release, the collaboration with Samsung C&T will center on automating rebar cage construction through sophisticated robotic welding and tying techniques. This breakthrough intends to enable the production of massive, pre-manufactured reinforcing cages, which are an essential component in construction.
Rebar cages are crucial tension devices used in concrete to produce reinforced structures, which add strength to infrastructure projects. “Sustainability is a fundamental principle at NEOM, guiding what we develop and how we build it. By automating labor-intensive operations with robotics, we are pushing the boundaries of construction innovation,” stated Majid Mufti, CEO of the NEOM Investment Fund.
