According to one source, US President Donald Trump will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House next week to urge him to halt the conflict in Gaza. According to the source, Mr. Trump is expected to inform Mr. Netanyahu that the conflict, which has been going on for more than 20 months, can no longer go on.
“Netanyahu is eager to talk about a ceasefire, because the military and political objectives of the war have long been achieved,” they stated. Mr. Netanyahu has “expressed interest” in visiting Washington and meeting with the president, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday.
According to an Israeli official cited by Axios on Monday, the meeting is scheduled for Monday. For the second time this year since Mr. Trump took office, it would be Mr. Netanyahu’s third visit to Washington.
According to Ms. Leavitt, Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer spoke with top White House officials in Washington this week. She said that since taking office, Mr. Trump had made it a “priority” to end this brutal war in Gaza. Ms. Leavitt claimed that a fresh opportunity was presented by the recently mediated peace agreement between Israel and Iran that put an end to the 12-day conflict.
