Nike has announced that it will increase the cost of several of its items starting on June 1st. The price hikes will affect everything from clothes to shoes. The massive sportswear company claims that the adjustments are part of “seasonal planning” and made no reference to US President Donald Trump’s trade-stripping policies.
Additionally, the company announces that, for the first time since 2019, it will sell goods directly to Amazon in the US. Adidas, a competing company, issued a warning last month that Trump’s taxes will raise the cost of well-known footwear like the Gazelle and Samba in the US.
The majority of Nike sneakers that cost more than $100 (£74.50) will see price increases of up to $10 starting next Sunday. Additionally, there will be a $2–$10 increase in the price of apparel and equipment.
The price increases will not affect the well-known Air Force 1 trainers and sneakers under $100. Jordan-branded clothing and accessories, as well as items for children, will not be included.
The BBC knows several internal and external reasons contributed to Nike’s decision. We regularly evaluate our business and make pricing adjustments as part of our seasonal planning,” stated a spokeswoman.
