Ontario will No Longer air the Anti-Tariff Advertisement That Infuriated Trump

Following President Donald Trump’s decision to end trade discussions, Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced that he will halt his province’s anti-tariff advertising campaign in the US.

Ford stated that the TV commercial will be halted on Monday “so that trade talks can resume” and that he took the decision following a conversation with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday.

According to him, it would continue to air on US networks over the weekend, including throughout the Major League Baseball World Series. Earlier on Friday, Carney informed reporters that Canada is ready to resume trade negotiations with the United States “when the Americans are ready. Late Thursday night, Trump called the advertisement “FAKE” and “egregious” in a Truth Social post. “HEREBY TERMINATED” was how he described the trade negotiations.

Former US President Ronald Reagan, a Republican and symbol of US conservatism, is quoted in the Ontario government-sponsored advertisement as arguing that tariffs “hurt every American.  The video features snippets of Reagan’s 1987 national radio speech about international trade.
