OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has released an AI-powered web browser to take on rivals like Google, the company behind Chrome, the most widely used browser globally. The address bar, a crucial component of search, is eliminated in ChatGPT Atlas. According to CEO Sam Altman, the browser was “built around ChatGPT” when it was released on Tuesday for Apple’s MacOS operating system.
The launch of Atlas coincides with OpenAI’s search for fresh strategies to profit from its expanding user base and its enormous wager on artificial intelligence (AI). According to OpenAI, Atlas will also provide its well-liked chatbot users with a paid agent option that performs searches automatically.
Only subscribers who have paid for ChatGPT will be able to use the agent mode feature. It makes “improvements that make it faster and more useful by working with your browsing context” through the use of the chatbot.
The company has launched a number of new initiatives to attract people to its online services, including collaborations with booking services like Booking.com and Expedia and e-commerce sites like Etsy and Shopify. Mr. Altman revealed at OpenAI’s DevDay event earlier this month that ChatGPT now has 800 million weekly active users, up from 400 million in February, according to Demandsage, a data and research business.
