Police in Nigeria Accuse a Motorist of Killing Anthony Joshua’s Reckless Driving Caused a Car Accident

Police in the southwestern state of Ogun announced on Friday that the driver of a vehicle transporting British boxer Anthony Joshua that was involved in a deadly collision in Nigeria has been charged with reckless and dangerous driving.

The boxer and two of his pals, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, were being driven by Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, on a busy highway connecting Lagos and Ibadan in southwest Nigeria when their Lexus SUV collided with a stationary vehicle on Monday.

The defendant was given five million naira (€2,960) in bail with two sureties. Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi told the AFP news agency, “He was remanded until he fulfilled his bail condition.

On Monday, a car carrying the former heavyweight champion and two of his cronies collided with a parked truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major route that connects Lagos and Ogun state.

Joshua was released on Wednesday, according to Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso, after it was determined that he was clinically competent to recover at home.

Ayodele was Joshua’s trainer, and Ghami was his strength and conditioning coach. Joshua and Ayodele shared videos of themselves playing table tennis on social media a few hours before to the collision.
