During demonstrations in Minneapolis following the shooting death of a lady by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, at least 29 people were taken into custody.
A “chunk of ice was thrown at them” during Friday night’s protests, which saw 1,000 people take to the city’s streets, injuring one police officer, according to city officials. Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot in her automobile on Wednesday, sparking protests against immigration enforcement across the United States. According to the Trump administration, the agent who fired the bullets did so in self-defense. The woman did not represent a threat, according to local officials.
On Friday night, demonstrators gathered outside the city’s Canopy Hotel, where some ICE agents were allegedly sleeping, prompting Minneapolis Police to proclaim an unlawful assembly.
Some individuals forced entry into the hotel through an alley entrance” according to a statement from the Minneapolis police department. Online videos showed demonstrators beating on drums, blowing whistles, and flashing bright lights into the area.
There were “well over 1,000” protesters in the area, according to the police, and some of them threw rocks, ice, and snow at policemen, police cars, and other vehicles. However, no significant injuries were reported.
