Recalls for 24,000 Chrysler Minivans

Due to fire hazards, Stellantis recalled roughly 24,000 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid minivans globally. Owners were advised to park their vehicles outside, away from buildings. and to hold off on charging the cars until after a software update.
According to Stellantis, 19,500 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids from the 2017–2021 model years are included in the recall in the US.

The business is aware of four customers who reported symptoms resembling smoke inhalation, seven incidents that happened while the cars were being recharged, and some that happened while the vehicles were turned off.

According to Stellantis, the incidents are connected to an uncommon anomaly in certain high-voltage battery pack cells in the model. When the battery is low, the vehicle’s risk is minimized. According to the manufacturer, owners ought to hold off on charging until the recall is finished. Dealers will replace the vehicle’s high-voltage battery if the abnormality is detected by the software update that the company is developing.

While later models feature an enhanced manufacturing process, the minivans included in the recall may have been fixed with a similar software update in the past. While waiting for the software update, owners can keep driving their cars.

According to government documents seen by Reuters, Chrysler parent Stellantis paid $190.7 million in civil penalties for failing to meet US fuel economy requirements for 2019 and 2020, and owes an additional $459.7 million in outstanding penalties.
