Regardless of Trump’s Opinion, Israel Decided to Take Action Right Away

Tensions between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu have been rising about the potential for Israel to attack Iran. Throughout the US administration’s ongoing nuclear talks with Iran, Trump has been encouraging the Israeli leader to wait and not do something now. However, the Israelis certainly believed they had their chance to take action.

After Hezbollah’s demise in Lebanon last year, which removed a significant deterrent for Israel, they think the Iranians are as weak as they will be in the area. Despite the reluctance of the Americans, Netanyahu believed that now was the moment.

“Protecting American forces in the region is our top priority, and we are not involved in strikes against Iran,” he stated. Israel has informed the US that it thought the strike on Iran was “necessary for its self-defence,” Rubio continued.

The White House is attempting to convey that they want to remain out of this conflict for the time being by openly distancing themselves from the military operation. When Israel escalated the crisis in the area last year, we witnessed a similar scenario in which the US tried to control the repercussions, support Israel, and—most importantly—avoid becoming embroiled in the conflict itself.
