Rishi Sunak, a Former Prime Minister, Joins Goldman Sachs

Rishi Sunak, the former prime minister, is now a senior advisor at Goldman Sachs. According to the bank, Sunak, who stepped down as PM in July 2024, will continue to work part-time, offering his “unique perspectives and insights” on world politics and the economy to its clients.

He is still the Conservative MP for Yorkshire’s Richmond and Northallerton. Before entering politics, Sunak worked as an analyst at the bank in the early 2000s. David Solomon, the chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, expressed his excitement at having Rishi return to the company.

Solomon stated that Sunak will “spend time with our people around the world, contributing to our culture of ongoing learning and development” in addition to offering advice to clients.

The Richmond Project, a nonprofit that Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty launched earlier this year to aim to promote numeracy throughout the UK, will receive a donation from Sunak’s income.

Sunak’s new role poses several dangers, as Goldman Sachs may profit from improper access to information due to his tenure as Prime Minister, according to the Advisory Committee for Business Appointments (Acoba), which must approve positions accepted by former ministers for two years after they leave office.
