As the third day of US-Ukrainian negotiations in Florida approaches, Russia has initiated a significant aircraft bombardment against Ukrainian infrastructure targets. Russia launched 51 missiles and 653 drones overnight, the majority of which were shot down, according to authorities. One strike damaged rolling stock and destroyed the main station structure at a railway hub in the town of Fastiv, southwest of Kyiv.
According to Russia, it targeted port and energy infrastructure as well as military-industrial targets. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the latest attacks and said he will travel to London on Monday to meet with German, British, and Ukrainian leaders in an effort to exert pressure on Moscow.
Macron wrote on X, “We must keep applying pressure on Russia to push it toward peace. He said he would meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London to assess the current US-mediated negotiations.
Negotiators from the US and Ukraine had earlier called on Russia to demonstrate a “serious commitment to long-term peace” after negotiations in Moscow failed to deliver a breakthrough.
