According to Cristiano Ronaldo, the 2026 World Cup will undoubtedly be his final one. On Tuesday, he provided a date for his mysterious retirement hint, stating that he will hang up his boots in “one or two years” after announcing his impending retirement to the public. The Portuguese forward, who made his debut at Sporting as a teenager in 2002 and has amassed over 950 goals for both club and country, stated in an interview that he would shortly retire to spend time with his family.
In June, Ronaldo renewed his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr until 2027. The 40-year-old Portuguese player is also aiming for the World Cup the following year, which is the only significant championship that is absent from his collection of awards. “Definitely, yes, because I will be 41 years old (at the World Cup),” stated Ronaldo, who also holds the record for most goals scored by an international team with 143.
“For me, “soon” meant ten years. “No, I’m kidding,” Ronaldo remarked over a video call during a worldwide meeting on investment and tourism held in Saudi Arabia. “I’m feeling great right now. I’m still quick and sharp, and I score goals. I’m having fun playing for the national team. Let’s be honest, though, of course. One or two years is generally what I mean by “soon.
