The Powerball jackpot on Monday night increased to an estimated $975 million after the drawing on Saturday, when the winning amount was $935 million, did not produce a grand prize winner. The jackpot winner in Monday’s drawing can accept a lump amount estimated at $471.7 million or the money in annuitized payments.
Even though the Saturday drawing did not result in a jackpot victory, four tickets that matched the first five numbers each won $1 million. The Powerball website states that such tickets were sold in Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
The last time the big prize in the powerball was won was in January, when a Michigan ticket won a $842.4 million jackpot. Since then, Powerball reports that 38 draws have occurred without a jackpot winner. The odds of winning any prize in a Powerball drawing are 1 in 24.9, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to the lottery.
According to the lottery, a ticket bought in California in November 2022 earned $2.04 billion, the most fabulous Powerball jackpot and the largest lottery reward in the United States ever. $1.765 billion (one ticket in California, 2023), $1.586 billion (three tickets, 2016), and $1.08 billion (one ticket in California, 2023) are ranked second through fourth.
