Pavel Durov, the creator of the instant messaging program Telegram, claims that his estimated $13.9 billion (£10.3 billion) fortune will be divided among his more than 100 children.
“They will all have the same privileges since they are all my children! “After I’m dead, I don’t want them to rip each other apart,” Mr. Durov told the French political publication Le Point.
According to Mr. Durov, he is the “official father” of six children with three separate partners; nonetheless, the clinic “where I started donating sperm fifteen years ago to help a friend, told me that more than 100 babies had been conceived this way in 12 countries. In addition, he restated his denial of any misconduct in relation to the grave criminal accusations against him in France.
The magazine also learnt that the self-exiled Russian computer magnate would not be able to access his children’s fortune for 30 years. “I want them to live like normal people, to set themselves up alone, to gain confidence in themselves, to be able to create, and not to depend on a bank account,” he explained. The BBC has asked Mr. Durov to react.
The 40-year-old said that because his work “involves risks—defending freedoms earns you many enemies, including within powerful states,” he had now developed a will. With its emphasis on privacy and encrypted chat, his app, Telegram, boasts over one billion monthly active users.
