The Head of Hyundai Claims That the White House Has Apologized for The Georgia Raid

José Muñoz, the CEO of Hyundai, stated on Wednesday that he received a personal call from the White House apologizing for a large-scale immigration raid at a factory in the US state of Georgia.

Speaking at a business leaders’ conference in Singapore, Mr. Muñoz claimed that the governor of Georgia had also called. He said, “I don’t know what happened, this does not fall under state jurisdiction.

Tensions between Washington and Seoul increased in September when a raid at a battery plant run by Hyundai and electronics behemoth LG resulted in the detention of over 300 South Korean workers. In scenes that infuriated South Koreans, workers were made to sit on the factory floor while officers cuffed their legs during the raid.

Following frantic negotiations between the South Korean government and the United States, the workers were released from custody after more than a week. Due to labor difficulties, the firm warned in September that the raid might postpone the plant’s inauguration.
