Following the Outrage in China, Swatch Apologized for The Slanted Eyes” Advertisement

After the image caused a stir among Chinese social media users, Swiss wristwatch Swatch issued an apology and removed an advertisement that showed a model tugging the corners of his eyes. The position, according to critics, was similar to the racist “slanted eye” that has long been used to make fun of Asians.

As the ad went viral, calls for a boycott of Swatch products increased on Chinese social media. Swatch claimed to have “taken note of the recent concerns regarding the portrayal of a model” in their statement.

We really regret any inconvenience or miscommunication this may have caused,” the business stated in a statement on Saturday. We take this issue very seriously, and we have taken down any relevant content right away. Critics were not placated by the apologies, either.

Swatch is “only afraid for its profits,” according to a Weibo user. “You can apologise, but I will not forgive. They continue to discriminate against Chinese people despite profiting from us. Another Weibo user said, “If we don’t boycott it out of China, we would be cowardly.
