The Pilots Killed in the LaGuardia Jet Tragedy Were Named

The two Air Canada pilots died when their plane collided with a fire vehicle at LaGuardia Airport have been identified as Antoine Forest and Mackenzie Gunther. According to local media, Forest was 30 years old and from Quebec, while Gunther graduated from Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto in 2023.

The event occurred at 23:40 local time on Sunday (03:40 GMT on Monday) and resulted in 41 injuries. The New York airport was closed until Monday afternoon.”These were two young men at the beginning of their careers, so it’s an absolute tragedy that we’re sitting here mourning their loss,” Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administrator Bran Bedford said.

An investigation has been initiated. An air traffic controller was heard yelling, “Truck One, stop, stop, stop!” seconds before the disaster.
The cockpit voice and flight data recorders of the plane will be examined as part of the investigation.

The Toronto Star stated that Forest learned to fly bush planes in Saguenay in 2018 before being employed by Air Canada in December 2022. His aunt, Jeannette Gagnier, told the newspaper that he and his brother would spend the summers with her as he practiced English to become a pilot.
