US President Donald Trump ordered the Justice Department to seek the release of testimony from the trial of the late, alleged sex-trafficker-to-the-famous in an effort to contain the storm that was sparked by a shocking allegation about his acquaintance with Jeffrey Epstein. In 2019, Epstein, a billionaire who was awaiting trial for allegedly sexually abusing scores of minors at his mansions in New York and Florida, was discovered hanging in his cell in New York. Conspiracy theories concerning an alleged global network of affluent pedophiles were inspired by the case, particularly among Trump’s far-right supporters. The story was heightened by Epstein’s death, which was ruled a suicide, before to his trial.
