RIYADH: Three US Businesses companies and energy behemoth Saudi Aramco have inked Memorandums of Understanding to promote the creation of potential lower-carbon solutions.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Kingdom’s minister of energy, and Jennifer Granholm, his counterpart from the White House, witnessed the signing of the agreements with Aeroseal, Spiritus, and Rondo.
The accords resulted from talks between the two officials regarding carbon management, clean hydrogen, nuclear energy, electricity and renewables, innovation, and the resilience of the energy sector’s supply chain. Aramco agreed to investigate opportunities in the direct air capture field as part of the Spiritus deal, and the US firm’s approach in this area may address significant cost challenges.
Senior vice president Ali Al-Meshari of Aramco’s technology, oversight, and coordination division stated: “Aramco has expressed its ambition to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions across its wholly-owned operated assets by 2050, and sees opportunities to build a lower-carbon new energy business potentially.” Our R&D, venture capital, and technology deployment programmes aim to develop cutting-edge technologies that can be implemented at scale to help lower the costs associated with reducing carbon emissions. It is our opinion that Spiritus, Rondo, and Aeroseal technologies have the potential to scale globally, and specifically in the Middle East.
