TikTok US Pushes Allegations That it Censors Content

Following thousands of reports of issues with the video streaming service, TikTok has refuted allegations that its new US operations are strictly regulating what users broadcast. A representative for TikTok US responded to the BBC by restating a previous claim that technical issues were the cause, since the company separated into an American entity last week.

We’ve achieved significant progress in repairing our US infrastructure with our US data center partner,” they stated. “However, the US user experience may still have some technical issues, especially when posting new content. Additionally, they refuted users’ claims that they couldn’t use the name “Epstein” on TikTok.

It alludes to the deceased businessman and convicted sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein. The way the Trump administration handled the Epstein issue has continued to draw intense criticism. According to TikTok, revealing the name “Epstein” in direct messaging is not prohibited.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced an investigation into allegations that TikTok has banned content critical of the Trump administration, despite the company’s statement that issues with the platform are being addressed.

A deal to separate the app’s US operations was reached last Thursday; three days later, hundreds of American users began complaining about issues, such as receiving “zero views” on new posts.
