President Trump of the United States banned a racist video from social media that compared Barack and Michelle Obama to apes. The footage, which was synced to the music The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” was the concluding element of a 62-second video that contained assertions on prospective electoral fraud in 2020.
Black Republican Senator Tim Scott had demanded that the president delete the post, calling it “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.” Obama had also voiced similar concerns.
First, the White House said that the video was only a “internet meme video” and urged people to “stop the fake outrage” because of it.
The video seems to have been lifted from an October X post by conservative meme maker Xerias; it harkens back to racist cartoons that liken Black people to monkeys.
Several other prominent Democrats, such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are also shown as animals in that video.
There was a strong reaction after the president shared the video, among many others on his Truth Social account, although he did not remark on them.In a statement published on X, the office of California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the president’s “disgusting behaviour.
