The United States is reviewing a request from Ukraine for long-range Tomahawk missiles, US Vice President JD Vance has said, noting that President Donald Trump would make the “final determination” on the matter.
Kyiv has long sought weapons capable of striking deep into Russian territory, arguing that such capabilities could significantly weaken Russia’s military infrastructure and pressure Moscow to negotiate an end to the war. “If the cost of continuing the war for Moscow is too high, it will be forced to start peace talks,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defence Minister Ivan Havryliuk told the BBC.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the idea, stating that there is “no panacea that can change the situation on the front for the Kyiv regime.” He added that whether it is Tomahawks or other missiles, such weapons “won’t be able to change the dynamic. Tomahawk missiles have a range of 2,500 km (1,500 miles), which would put Moscow within reach for Ukraine.
On Sunday, a major 12-hour strike involving hundreds of drones and over 50 missiles left four people dead in Kyiv and at least 70 injured. Ukraine’s Havryliuk told the BBC Russia was going further to raise the intensity and severity of its aerial attacks.
