Trump’s $893 Billion Budget Plan Calls for Fewer F-35s and more Drones and Missiles

According to budget documents released Wednesday, US President Donald Trump wants to increase army pay, purchase more advanced missiles and drones, reduce Navy employment, and purchase fewer ships and fighter planes in order to save money in the defence budget for the next year.

The defence and national security budget proposal is unchanged from this year at $892.6 billion. The budget places Trump’s stamp on the military by diverting money from weapons and services to support his goals. It also covers nuclear weapons-related operations conducted by the Department of Energy and raises funding for homeland security.

According to the White House, the money would be used to boost the defence industry and discourage Chinese aggressiveness in the Indo-Pacific. The most recent plan submitted to Congress does not contain the majority of the funds for Trump’s flagship Golden Dome missile defence shield, which was part of a separate budget request.

Trump asked for just three warships and fewer Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft in the 2026 budget. According to the Navy, a separate appropriations package is anticipated to contain the purchase of a Virginia-class ship manufactured by General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls Industries, along with 15 other ships.
