UAE: ‘Critical Staff’ who report for Duty During National Day Holiday will Not have a Long Weekend

While many UAE residents take advantage of the National Day weekend to relax, a committed group of people continue to labor in the background to keep the nation functioning properly.

Many ‘critical staff’, including delivery drivers, real estate salespeople, and medical professionals, will continue to work during the vacation while still trying to maintain family ties.

During the four days off, Dr. Nidal Shawish will treat his patients. The emergency medicine expert and division chair at Burjeel Medical City noted, “We see a significant increase in patients during the long weekend in the emergency room with needs varying from small injuries and seasonal illnesses to major injuries.” “The number of patients in the emergency room increases by 20 to 30 percent during the holidays.

Even though his family misses him during these times, Dr. Nidal continued, they respect his work schedule and take pride in what he does. He declared, “Even on holidays, I commit to care for people in need.” “I try to stay in touch with them throughout the day, even when I’m at work, by giving them a quick message or a call whenever I can to let them know I’m thinking of them.
