A senior official has recalled that when the globe shut down to combat the Covid-19 outbreak, Abu Dhabi gave priority to the distribution of food and medications. According to the undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the UAE capital steadfastly adhered to this guiding concept as it navigated the difficulties presented by the pandemic.
Rashed Al Blooshi stressed the value of having a clear vision in the face of ambiguity during a crisis while speaking at the World Crisis and Emergency Management Summit in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. “We faced a period of scattered data and confusion,” he said. “However, our leadership’s message was unambiguous: Prioritise health and sustenance.”
Al Blooshi explained the two-pronged approach taken by the Department of Economic Development during the crisis. “While the economy is vital, our primary commitment was to safeguard the health and well-being of our citizens,” he said. Implementing a coordinated response to the crisis required quick cooperation between various sectors, including tourism and municipal services.
Abu Dhabi’s ability to quickly adjust to shifting conditions was essential to its success. Al Blooshi described how the emirate’s strong infrastructure made the switch to electronic services easy and allowed for continuous service and education provision. “When faced with lockdowns, we quickly moved to ensure that essential services remained accessible,” he said.
