According to the US military, senior Pentagon officials have traveled to Ukraine to “discuss efforts to end the war” with Russia. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, is scheduled to meet with the team on Thursday in Kyiv under the leadership of US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll.
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that the US and Russia had drafted a new peace framework that would require Ukraine to make major concessions, such as ceding territory it still controls and drastically reducing its armed forces.
The idea, which was created by Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev and President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, has not been formally confirmed by either Washington or Moscow.
On X, however, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that “durable peace will require both sides to agree on difficult but necessary concessions.” For this reason, based on suggestions from both sides of the fight, we are and will continue to compile a list of possible ways to end this war.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that “the Ukrainians do not want any form of capitulation.” At the same time, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas cautioned on Thursday that any proposal would need support from both Europeans and Ukrainians to succeed.
On the day that at least 26 people were killed in a Russian missile and drone attack on apartment buildings in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil, reports of a US-Russian peace agreement surfaced.
