Vance Warns That if Shutdown Continues, Painful” Job Layoffs Will Occur

If the government shutdown is not ended, US Vice-President JD Vance has threatened to eliminate thousands of jobs and more. Vance told Fox News, “The longer this goes on, the deeper the cuts are going to be.” “To be clear, some of these cuts are going to be painful.”

Republicans’ refusal to include health insurance subsidies in the funding package was criticized by Democrats as a form of punishment. As the shutdown nears its third week, hundreds of thousands of federal workers are already on unpaid leave. There isn’t a scheduled congressional vote that would reopen the government.

After Democrats rejected a short-term funding bill on October 1st, the standoff started. They want the Affordable Care Act’s federal health insurance subsidies to be extended as part of the budget.

On Friday, the Trump administration declared that more than 4,000 employees had been let go from seven agencies, including the CDC. However, a spokesperson for the US health department, which oversees the CDC, told the BBC that some of those layoff notices were received in error. According to Andrew Nixon, those CDC workers “have all been notified that they are not subject to the reduction in force.
