As Salik’s new toll rates go into effect today (January 31), many UAE motorists will feel the impact of dynamic pricing, which increases toll fees during peak hours. Some residents, however, will gain from the changes.
Toll payments are abolished daily between 1 am and 6 am. Therefore,, drivers will save money. Abu Aiman, a Sharjah resident since 1996, told Khaleej Times, “The free Salik window from 1 am to 6 am will help me travel from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi.” I leave at about 5:30 a.m. and arrive at 8 a.m. Previously, I used Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road to dodge toll gates. But since Salik will not be effective until 6 am, I’ll utilise Ittihad Road and Sheikh Zayed Road and can take a break once I arrive in Abu Dhabi.
In addition to Salik’s savings, I’ll also save on petrol expenses because the route is shorter,” he said. He noted: “I am sure many motorists who leave early will use Sheikh Zayed Road to take advantage of this facility and save good money.”
Adnan Chaudhry, a 15-year UAE citizen, said he enjoys roaming around Dubai late at night when the roads are less congested. “When I saw the news on Khaleej Times that Salik fee will be free from 1am to 6am, I was excited to explore Dubai more at night, especially on the weekend.
