As a youngster trafficked by infamous billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, Virginia Giuffre accused Prince Andrew of Britain and other powerful men of sexually abusing her. Her publicist announced that Giuffre died at the age of 41 in an apparent suicide at her Western Australian property on Friday.
In a statement, publicist Dini von Mueffling stated, “Deeply loving, wise, and funny, she was a beacon to other survivors and victims. She loved a lot of animals and her kids. She was constantly more worried about me than about herself. I can’t express how much I will miss her. Representing her was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
While awaiting trial on US federal sex trafficking allegations involving scores of underage girls and young women, some as young as 14, Epstein, a rich and well-connected money manager in New York, committed suicide in August 2019.
The accusations were brought 14 years after Palm Beach, Florida, police started looking into claims that he had sexually assaulted young women who had been paid to massage him.
After the original inquiry concluded with Epstein receiving an 18-month jail sentence in Florida, Giuffre came forward publicly. Epstein had struck a covert agreement to escape federal prosecution by entering a guilty plea to comparatively minor state-level counts of soliciting prostitutes. In 2009, he was set free.
