OpenAI CEO Sam Altman received the first honorary doctorate from the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the United Arab Emirates. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was present at the ceremony, which took place at MBZUAI headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Altman’s contributions to AI as a practical tool were recognized with the honorary doctorate. According to Sheikh Khaled, Altman’s path fits with the UAE’s goal of leading the way in innovation and artificial intelligence.
The founder of OpenAI is most renowned for introducing ChatGPT, a generative chatbot that can respond to a variety of queries, including book reviews and simple supper recipes. In addition to writing poetry, the bot can create images of people in many styles, like Ghibli and the Barbie Box craze. These have generated a lot of controversy about the limits of AI use among artists, reviewers, and ChatGPT users. The risk of technology replacing art or serving as a substitute for mental therapists has been raised by experts.
But when it comes to research, everyday questions, and receiving brief, concise answers, the free bot can be a useful helper. The UAE has attempted to capitalize on the tech boom in a variety of fields, including children as well as adults and the workforce. The country was the first to include artificial intelligence (AI) in the curriculum for kindergarten-aged pupils in public schools.
