What Effects Will the US Shutdown Have on National Parks, Employment, and Travel?

After Republican and Democratic lawmakers were unable to reach an agreement on a budget, the US federal government shut down. Widespread disruptions are expected for Americans in sectors ranging from air travel to zoo visits as a result of the standoff, which will impact federal funding throughout October and beyond.

Approximately 750,000 federal employees, or 40% of the workforce, are anticipated to be placed on unpaid leave due to the political impasse. This is how the United States could be affected.

Flyers may experience several negative effects from a federal shutdown, including lengthy security lines and delays caused by unpaid air traffic controllers opting to stay at home rather than work without pay. Because they are deemed “essential,” employees of the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) and air traffic control will continue to report for duty.

However, they won’t get paid until the shutdown is over. These employees started calling in sick more frequently when this last occurred in 2018–2019, which caused delays that spread throughout the nation.

US passport services have warned that processing travel documents may take longer than usual, which might have an impact on Americans who are planning international travel.
