Authorities claim that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah native who is the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s shooting, had recently insulted the conservative influencer in a conversation and was residing with his family when the shooting occurred. According to officials on Friday, Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday after a family friend contacted the police.
Investigators have not revealed a motive to the public. Governor of Utah Spencer Cox informed reporters that a family member who spoke to law police claimed that Robinson had recently brought up Kirk’s presence at Utah Valley University, where he was shot on Tuesday, during a recent get-together.
Cox stated, “They discussed his opinions and the reasons they didn’t like him.” The family member also told investigators that Robinson had changed his political views in recent years.
Reuters examined state databases and found that Robinson does not appear to have any criminal past. State voter records show that although he was registered to vote, he was not a poll worker. The institution verified to Reuters that he spent a semester at Utah State University in Logan in 2021. Why he left the college was not immediately apparent.
