President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is still sending out a strong message of defiance. When we met this weekend in the government building in Kyiv, he emphasised that Ukraine will win the war, not lose it. He was strongly against paying the price for a ceasefire accord that President Vladimir Putin wanted, which meant giving up key land that Russia had failed to take even after losing tens of thousands of soldiers.
Zelensky told me that Putin has already launched World War Three and that the only way to stop him was to put a lot of military and economic pressure on him.I think Putin has already begun it. The question is how much land he can take and how to stop him… Russia aims to change the way people live and make them live in a different way.
What about Russia’s request for Ukraine to give up the 20% of the eastern area of Donetsk that it still controls? This includes a line of towns that Ukraine terms “fortress cities.” Russia also wants more land in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. I asked, “Isn’t that a fair request if it leads to a ceasefire?”I don’t see it this way. I don’t see it as just land.
