Emergency services report that a plane crashed and overturned while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada, gravely injuring one child and two adults. Social media users posted pictures of an overturned aircraft resting on its roof on the snow-covered tarmac. At least one of its wings seems to be gone.
According to Toronto Pearson Airport, “all passengers and crew are accounted for”, and the crash involved a Delta Air Lines flight inbound from Minneapolis. According to Delta, were 80 people on board the flight: 76 passengers and 4 crew members. The airline reports that 18 people have been sent to hospitals.
Three air ambulance helicopters and two land ambulances were sent to the location, according to Ontario’s air ambulance service, Ornge. It further stated that a woman in her 40s, a guy in his 60s, and a toddler are among the patients with serious injuries.
In an evening briefing, Deborah Flint, the president and CEO of Toronto Pearson Airport, referred to the emergency response as the “textbook” and gave them credit for preventing any fatalities.
According to the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), the aircraft in question was Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, which was flown by Endeavour Air, one of its subsidiaries. According to Delta, the incident occurred at approximately 14:15 ET (19:15 GMT) on Monday afternoon and involved a CRJ900 aircraft. The airline stated that its “primary focus is taking care of those impacted” and transporting 76 passengers and four staff members.
